6 hours of PotBS.

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

PotBS had its second stress test this weekend, and I was actually able to get in this time and give the game a shot, and it only took 12 hours of patching, thanks SOE…
Download issue aside, and I don’t think this breaks any NDA, here are my first impressions of PotBS, which I will say […]

Pirates of the Burning Sea Beta Impressions

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Today, Flying Labs Software dropped the NDA on Pirates of the Burning Sea and officially launched its Open Beta in anticipation of its early January release. I had the chance to get into the last few weeks of closed beta and was able to log enough hours to give some initial impressions. I […]

T.G.I. Rambling

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Looks like a slow end to the week–and the month–MMO news-wise. After a largely PC-less 2007, I scraped up my end-of-the-year savings and ordered a new gaming rig with what scratch isn’t going towards Christmas gifts.
I work for a college out here, so we have a built in week off between Christmas and New Year’s. […]

PoTBS Pre-order Blues

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Okay, so after giving myself the weekend to mull it over, I’ve decided to pre-order PoTBS. The last game I pre-ordered was Vanguard. We know how that launch went. But as an adult who doesn’t spend a lot of money on frivolous stuff for myself, $49 is not that big a gamble to take.
This morning […]

The Measure of Success

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Wilhelm’s provocative My New Scorecard post and comments got me thinking. What does it really mean to be a successful MMO financially? I’m mainly referring to professionally developed games with “real” funding.
In the wake of WoW’s success, many many studios have put projects in development. Nothing breeds interest in success like success, […]

Flag Development for PotBS :: What I’ve Learned

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Today, I’m going to share my thoughts and what I have learned about making flags for Pirates of the Burning Sea. A few notes of fair warning first: I’m not an artist and really don’t have that much experience within Photoshop. I do use Photoshop and I’ve messed around with it enough […]

My Flag :: Final Version

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

FYI: I’m working on a tutorial explaining what I have learned. Not sure it is anything new, but it will be a tutorial explaining my process and with a few pointers of what not to try. Check back in the next couple of days if you are interested.

Age of Conan: Delayed Until March 2008

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Body blow.  Funcom announced today that they are delaying release of Age of Conan until March 25, 2008.  Good for Funcom, bad for impatient gamers, hopefully good for folks longing for a quality, new, polished MMO.
I’m very glad that game developers (and those who back them financially) have the courage enough to wait to release […]
